Goins' Goal Leads Razorbacks To Shutout Over Rebels

CONWAY, Ark. — Fighting through cold temperatures and high winds, the Razorback soccer team battled to a 1-0 victory over SEC-foe Ole Miss Sunday afternoon at the Stephens Track and Soccer Complex in Conway, Arkansas. It was Arkansas’ third of four spring exhibition matches scheduled for 2018.

Sophomore-to-be Parker Goins scored the lone goal of the match in the 49th minute after receiving a through ball on the left from Taylor Malham. Goins needed just one touch before firing and finding the far post side of the net.

“The result always matters to us and I thought we deserved this one,” Arkansas head coach Colby Hale said. “It was windy and cold on a neutral site. There were numerous things we could’ve used as excuses for our performance, but our players are tremendously tough and today it showed. Our soccer was good, our pressing was good. It felt like this was a good team performance.”

Goins is coming off a spectacular freshman campaign that saw her finish with nine goals and 25 points, which led the team, and were good for top-five in the SEC. She earned her way to All-SEC freshman honors, as well as All-SEC second team at-large honors as her nine goals tied for the most ever by an Arkansas freshman in the last 21 years.

Arkansas’ final spring match will be on April 22 when it travels to Manhattan, Kansas to take on Kansas State from the Big 12 conference. First kick between the Razorbacks and Wildcats is set for 1 p.m. and admission is free.
