33 student-athletes earn 4.00 grades

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Thirty-three student-athletes earned selection to the University of Arkansas Athletics Department Academic Champions list for perfect 4.0 grade point averages in the fall 2008 semester it was recently announced. The Razorback swimming and diving team led the way with eight selections, followed by seven from the Razorback soccer team. Arkansas’ softball team added four members to the list while women’s track and baseball had three members earn perfect grades. Women’s tennis had two student-athletes honored while men’s tennis, men’s track, football, women’s golf and volleyball each had one student-athlete on the fall semester list. “We are extremely proud of these outstanding student-athletes who have committed themselves to academic and athletic excellence,” Arkansas Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. “Their hard work, dedication and sacrifice have led to numerous achievements in the classroom and accomplishments in athletic competition. This extraordinary group of young men and women exemplify the definition of student-athlete. They are outstanding representatives of the University of Arkansas and the Razorback program.” The list of 33 honorees includes 20 different majors from apparel studies to sociology. There were four kinesiology majors and three communications majors among the list. In addition to the 33 perfect semesters, Razorback athletes posted 172 student-athletes with grades at or above a 3.0 for the fall 2008 semester.
