33 Student-Athletes selected to SEC Honor Roll

FAYETTEVILLE — Thirty-three University of Arkansas student-athletes from basketball, gymnastics and swimming earned selection to the Southeastern Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll, the league office announced. Razorback swimming and diving led the way with 18 selections followed by nine from the gymnastics, team, four from women’s basketball and two from men’s basketball. “We are proud to recognize the many Razorback student-athletes selected to the SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll,” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. “The academic excellence of our more than 460 student-athletes continues to reflect positively on our program and the University of Arkansas. The commitment of our student-athletes to competing and achieving in the classroom and in athletic competition is the foundation of our continued success.” Jeff Poppell’s swimming and diving team is coming off a solid season in which junior Chelsea Franklin finished 10th in the 1,650 freestyle at the NCAA Championships earning her second All-America honor. The Razorbacks finished sixth at the SEC Championships and 41st overall at the NCAA meet this season. Franklin is a pre-childhood education major, one of 12 majors represented by the swimming and diving team. The Razorbacks have four journalism majors and three from kinesiology as well. Senior Jaime Pisani paced the Razorback gymnastics team to a sixth place finish and the program’s second Super Six appearance just last week, the team’s fourth top 10 finish in five seasons. Pisani, the SEC Gymnast of the Year, also competed in the NCAA event finals finishing 12th on vault and 10th on floor. The Razorback gymnastics team had five kinesiology majors selected to this year’s academic honor roll. The women’s basketball team enjoyed one of its best seasons in recent history reaching the NCAA Tournament second round. Arkansas won a program-best 10 SEC games and were paced by seniors Lyndsay Harris, Julie Inman and C’eira Ricketts, all of whom earned a spot on the league’s academic honor roll. Ricketts wrapped up her collegiate career and was drafted by the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury. Kikko Haydar and Rickey Scott round out the Razorbacks on this year’s winter honor roll. The duo helped the Razorbacks welcome back head coach Mike Anderson this season and led the team to 18-14 record with a school-record 17 wins at home. Haydar and Scott were honored at the team’s end of season banquet with the Academic Award and Haydar earned the Razorback Service Award as well.
