3rd-best score in history leads UA

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – No. 8 Arkansas recorded season-high road scores overall, on vault and floor, and senior All-American Casey Jo Magee set a school record in the all-around as the gymnastics team posted a 196.925-194.800 victory at No. 22 Minnesota on Saturday.

Arkansas’ team total is the third-best overall in school history and the best ever for a road meet. The 49.30 on vault ties for seventh-best in Razorback history and 49.175 on bars ties for ninth.

"The girls did a fantastic job," co-head coach Mark Cook said. "Our goal was to get a good away score and we did that. We also wanted to go 24-for-24, which is a hard thing to accomplish. The girls stayed within themselves and were really focused. They did a good job."

Magee won the all-around with a 39.650, breaking the record she set earlier this year of 39.625.

Magee won bars and tied teammate Sarah Nagashima for the beam title. Jaime Pisani won vault and floor, and had an all-around total of 39.525, which ties for third-best in school history.

"Casey was incredible," Cook said. "Jaime was right there with her. The whole team did a fantastic job."

In the first rotation, Arkansas posted a 49.175 on bars while Minnesota had a 48.475 on vault. Arkansas’ bars score is its best on the road this season.

For the Razorbacks, Casey Jo Magee had a 9.90, followed by Amy DeFilippo with a 9.85, Pisani a 9.825, and Sarah Nagashima and Mariah Howdeshell each with a 9.80.

For the Golden Gophers, Alexis Russell had a 9.875 on vault.

In the second rotation, Arkansas had a season-high matching 49.30 on vault and Minnesota a 48.90 on bars. UA’s total is its best on the road this year.

Pisani had a career-high matching 9.95, which matches the second-best score in school history. Magee had a season-high matching 9.925, which ties the sixth-best score in program history. Howdeshell and Amy Borsellino each had a 9.825, and Kelci Lewis a 9.775.

For Minnesota on bars, Russell and Kristin Furukawa each posted a 9.825.

Through the first two events, Arkansas led 98.475-97.375.

In the third rotation, the Razorbacks had a season-high 49.30 on floor and the Golden Gophers a 48.375 on beam.

Pisani had a career-high 9.95, Stacy Bartlett had a career-high 9.80, Lewis a personal-best 9.875, and Magee a career-high matching 9.925. Amanda Siebert recorded a 9.75. Pisani’s 9.95 ties the school record while Magee’s 9.925 ties for fourth-best.

For Minnesota, Furukawa had a 9.90.

Through three events, Arkansas led 147.775-145.75.

In the final rotation, the Razorbacks had a 49.15 on beam and Minnesota a 49.05 on floor.

Nagashima had a career-high matching 9.90 while Magee also posted a 9.90. Pisani had a 9.80, and Bartlett and DeFilippo a 9.775.

Arkansas closes the regular season with home meets each of the next two weeks. Pittsburgh visits Barnhill Arena on Friday and the Razorbacks host Oklahoma on March 19. Both meets start at 7 p.m.
