43 student-athletes earn academic honors

FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas had 43 student-athletes from football, soccer and volleyball selected to the 2011 Southeastern Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, the league office announced this week. "I am proud of the academic accomplishments of our student-athletes. Last fall, thanks to their hard work we posted an overall student-athlete GPA of 3.05. Congratulations to all of our honorees." The Razorback football team, which tied a school record with 11 wins and earned the program’s first top-five finish since 1977, had 17 selections to the fall SEC Honor Roll. Head Coach Bobby Petrino and the Razorbacks placed fifth in the final Associated Press and USA Today polls, marking the fourth top-five AP finish in school history. The Razorbacks earned their 11th win by defeating No. 11 Kansas State in the 76th AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic. The Razorback soccer team also had 17 selections to the honor roll. Although young on the field, the Razorback soccer team got it done in the classroom and in the community also winning the Lee Spencer Cup for community service last year. In addition Allie Chandler and Jeri Ann Okoro were All-SEC selections on the pitch. The Razorback volleyball team rounded out the selections for the fall honor roll with nine of the 15 players earning a 3.0 grade point average or better. The Razorbacks closed out the 2011 season with an 18-13 overall record and a 10-10 mark in SEC play. Both win totals are highs for Arkansas under Head Coach Robert Pulliza. The team finished second in the SEC Western Division, its highest conference finish since tying for the division title in 2005. The 18 overall wins are the most for the program since the 2005 season while the 10 conference wins are the most for Arkansas since the SEC moved to the double round-robin format in 2006. 2011 University of Arkansas selections to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll
