Razorback Student-Athlete Academic Honors Continue

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – On the heels of what is arguably the best competitive year for the University of Arkansas’ 19 athletic teams, student-athletes continue to show they are more than just good on the field as 64 first-year Razorbacks were named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll the league office announced recently.

Head coach Sean Schimmel and the Razorback swimming and diving team led the way with 10 selections followed closely by Bret Bielema’s football squad with nine honorees.

The success of the first-years helped Razorbacks Athletics see 60 percent of the student-athletes post a 3.00 or better grade point average for the term.  That number is an increase from 55 percent last spring and represents steady improvement for all 19 of the Razorbacks’ athletics programs.

Razorbacks student-athletes have had 11 consecutive semesters with a 3.00 or better GPA including the spring semester’s 3.24 mark.  There was also an increase in the number of Academic Champions with perfect 4.0 GPAs from 50 to 52 from a year ago.
