2012 NCAA West Preliminary qualifier (800m)

2012 || INDOOR: Lieghio earned first-team All-America honors as a member of the fifth-place distance-medley relay at the NCAA Championships. Running the 1,200-meter leg of the DMR at the Alex Wilson Invitational, he helped the team qualify for the national meet with its season-best time of 9:31.48. At the SEC Championships, Lieghio turned in a third-place finish at 800 meters. After qualifying fourth in the prelims, he crossed the line in 1:49.24 in the final of the conference meet. He won the championship section of the 800 meters at the Tyson Invitational with a personal-best time of 1:48.58. OUTDOOR: Lieghio capped his season as an 800-meter participant at the NCAA West Preliminary. He advanced to the second round at the qualifying meet. He began the postseason with two scoring efforts at the SEC Championships. He finished seventh at 800 meters and was third as part of the team’s 1-2-3 sweep at 1,500 meters. At the Drake Relays, he helped the team to runner-up finish in the distance-medley and 4x1,600-meter relays. Lieghio established personal bests of 1:49.25 at 800 meters and 3:47.71 at 1,500 meters at the John McDonnell Invitational and Arkansas Spring Invitational, respectively.

PRIOR TO ARKANSAS: A middle-distance specialist at Iowa Central, Lieghio won a pair of national titles with victories in the 800 and 1,000 meters at the 2011 NJCAA National Indoor Championships. He was part of Iowa Central's national-title team. Lieghio was also a member of the Triton's championship distance-medley relay team. During his junior college career, he established personal bests of 50.88 in the 400 meters, 1:49 in the 800 meters, 2:26 in the 1,000 meters, 3:51 in the 1,500 meters and 4:08 in the mile. Competing at his home country's national championship, Lieghio won the 800 meters at the Under-23 Irish Track and Field Championships.

PERSONAL: Born June 30, 1989, he is the son of Anthony and Tina Lieghio and has an older sister, Tarya. He is currently undecided on a major at Arkansas.
