FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Point guard DeQuavious Wagner of Alexandria, La., has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Arkansas next season, Razorbacks’ Head Coach Mike Anderson announced on Wednesday.

Wagner, Mr. Basketball in the state of Louisiana this season, is a three-time all-district, all-state and 2012 Championships MVP, averaging better than 19 points per game over his last two seasons for Peabody Magnet High School.  The 5-10 Wagner scored a career high 38 points earlier this season and holds the Peabody Magnet school record for free throw percentage, hitting 90 percent.

“I am excited to have DeQuavious become a part of our program,” Anderson said.  “He brings a winning mentality and a warrior’s workmanship.  He has quickness, toughness, vision and a high basketball IQ, all qualities that will add to our team.  DeQuavious is also a very good student and above all is a character guy.  Coach Charles Smith (Wagner’s high school coach) is one of the winningest coaches in the state of Louisiana and says that DeQuavious is the best leader that he has ever had and knows how to win.”

Over the last three seasons, Wagner has led “Warhorse Nation” to a combined 109-5 record with two state championships and a state runner-up.  He also took Peabody Magnet to the state quarterfinals as a freshman.

Along with his accolades on the court, Wagner is also an exceptional student with a 3.6 grade point average, ranking No. 3 in his graduating class.

The addition of Wagner brings Arkansas’ 2012 signing class to four as he joins 6-3 guard Anthlon Bell of Bartlett, Tenn., 6-5 guard Michael Qualls of Shreveport, La., and 6-8 forward JaCorey Williams of Birmingham, Ala.
