FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Future University of Arkansas women’s golfer Gabriela Lopez represents the Razorbacks at this year’s 67th U.S. Women’s Open at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wis., Thursday.

Lopez, who signed with Arkansas in the fall, qualified winning the sectional at The Woodlands, Texas, shooting a 141 on May 22.  She tees off today at 2:20 p.m. from the 10th tee.

Lopez, a native of Mexico City, Mexico, attended Colegio Sagrado Corazon.

Lopez took up golf when she was four years old and played in the 2011 U.S. Women’s Amateur.  She competed in The Spirit International against future Razorback teammate Emily Tubert and is currently ranked 14th by the Golfweek prep rankings.

Lopez was asked about her decision to attend Arkansas in an interview at the U.S. Women’s Amateur.

“It was a tough decision,” she said.  “I have many choices. I had many opportunities. There were about 30 schools interested in me. I think the coach has to be very nice with you. I think all the team [has to be right] because you have to play with them four years of my life.”

Lopez is the daughter of Jose and Gabriela and has younger twin brothers, Jose Luis and Fernando.

Former Razorback Stacy Lewis is also in the field.  Lewis, the top-ranked American on the LPGA Tour, tees off at 1:58 p.m., also from the 10th tee.

The event airs on both ESPN2 and NBC beginning Thursday.  Coverage begins at 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday on ESPN2 and at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on NBC.
