KOHLER, Wis. -- Future University of Arkansas women's golfer Gabby Lopez and former Razorback Stacy Lewis both opened play at the 2012 U.S. Women's Open in Kohler, Wis., Thursday.
Lopez, a 2012 freshman for the Razorbacks, is a Mexico City, Mexico native. She began her day on the 10th tee and turned with a plus six 42 in her first U.S. Women's Open appearance.
Lopez doubled 11 and 13 but picked up a birdie on the 16th hole. She gave that back on 18 before turning onto the front nine.
Lopez also bogeyed the second, third and sixth holes with a birdie on the fourth hole. She finished with three consecutive pars, shooting an 80 in the first round. Lopez was tied for 129th when she came off the course but several players were still playing.
Former Razorback Stacy Lewis finished her day tied for 95th after the first round. The Woodlands, Texas, native, posted a first-round five-over 77. Lewis also started her day on the 10th tee and shot a 38 on the first nine and 39 after the turn.
Both players return to the course for morning tee times beginning at the first tee box.
