This is the sixth in a series of stories on the members of the University of Arkansas Hall of Honor Class of 2012. The class includes Edrick Floreal, Andrew Lang, Bill McClard, Bruce Maxwell, Ronn Reynolds, Clyde Rhoden, Jody Rittenhouse, Lisa Sparks, Terry Stewart and Dennis Winston. The official induction is Friday, Aug. 31, at the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Springdale. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased from the Razorback Foundation. Clyde Rhoden was a main offensive threat for the Razorback basketball team from 1959-61 under head coach Glen Rose. The three-year letterman was the 13th Razorback to earn All-America honors when he was named to Converse's honorable mention squad in 1960.
Rhoden was unanimously named a first-team All-Southwest Conference selection in 1960 and 1961 while also taking all-district accolades in 1960.
As a junior, he led the team in scoring in 11 games and had a career high 29 points on three different occasions.
The Hot Springs, Ark., native led the Razorbacks to a 42-28 record while at Arkansas, averaging team highs of 14.6 points in 1959 and 16.2 points in 1960. Rhoden is one of just 15 Razorbacks to lead the team in scoring average for two or more years. For his career, he averaged 14.2 points and 6.7 rebounds while shooting over 41 percent from the floor. He led the team with a .417 field goal percentage in 1959.
Rhoden helped the Razorbacks finish 12-11 in 1960 and 16-7 in 1961.
A team co-captain his senior season, Rhoden was a 68 percent free-throw shooter and was just 22 points shy of eclipsing 1,000 points in his three years at Arkansas.
