FAYETTEVILLE - The University of Arkansas men's tennis team opened its 2012 fall season at the UNC-Wilmington Landfall Tournament this weekend.

As a result of two wins on Saturday, freshman Santiago Munoz advanced to the consolation final where he will face Old Dominion's Can Centinel on Sunday morning. After dropping his first match to ODU Zvonimir Podvinski, Munoz defeated East Carolina's Mario Martinez 7-6 (4), 6-1 and ODU's Tim Schweig 6-0, 6-4 in his next two matches.

"I am very impressed with Santiago's performance in his Razorback debut," head coach Robert Cox said. "We are always happy to see a true freshman secure some wins."

Also making his collegaite debut, Austin Robles split his first two matches. Robles defeated Patreik Wolterbeek of ECU 7-5, 7-6 (3) on Friday before falling to UNC-Wilmington's Zach Hublitz 6-3, 7-6 (2). Robles will face ECU Blake Gregory Sunday morning. Robles also competed with VCU's Michael Voscek in the doubles flight defeating ODU's Dante Terenzio and Alfredo Rodriguez.

"It's great for Austin to get off to such a great start in his Razorback career," Coach Cox said. "I am thrilled to see Austin win his first doubles and singles match as a Hog. We are excited about his next quality match."

Redshirt freshman Christian Lee also competed in two matches in the highest singles flight.

"Christian is quickly learning what it takes to play at this level," Coach Cox said. "I know he is soaking it in and will finish the tournament strong."

The tournament concludes on Sunday with Munoz and Robles in action.

"It's good to start the fall season by getting these three freshman to play in a very competitive tournament," Coach Cox said. "We are looking forward to finishing the tournament with some strong play on Sunday."
