FAYETTEVILLE- The University of Arkansas men's tennis team closed out the Midland Invitational on Saturday with two doubles wins.
Junior Hall Fess and sophomore Victor Hoang captured their first victory of the season with a win over TCU's Stein and Stevens 8-6. The doubles pair then went on to drop their second match to Wichita State's Pereira and Gutierrez 8-6.
The other doubles team of Pete Thomason and Jovan Parlic defeated Davidson's Kunz and Schafer 9-7 before falling to a strong duo from ACU of Hach and Cortes 8-0.
"Overall these four guys had some bright spots this weekend," head coach Robert Cox said. "We need to be more consistent from match-to-match, but that is also what the fall season is all about; developing their game and confidence."
Parlic, the only player to compete in singles on Saturday, dropped a tough match to the No. 2 seed Victor Manzini from Texas Tech 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8).
"I saw some good things this weekend," Coach Cox said. "I also saw some things that we need to work on. We are going to just keep moving forward and prepare for our next tournament."
The Razorbacks will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Louisville, Ky., for the 2012 Louisville Fall Invitational.
