LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The University of Arkansas women's tennis team kicked off the fall season today at the Country Club of Little Rock Invitational on Friday, splitting their six singles matches and earning one victory in doubles. Leading the way was freshman Yang Pang, who had an outstanding collegiate debut for Arkansas, beating Oklahoma's 60th ranked Whitney Ritchie 6-2, 6-2.

"Overall it was an excellent first day for the whole squad", said head coach Michael Hegarty. "Every player benefited greatly from stiff competition and I expect us to take another step forward tomorrow."

Two other Razorbacks won their singles match, as Claudine Paulson and Sarah McLean also recorded victories.  Paulson defeated Oklahoma's Mia Lancaster 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, and Sarah McLean defeated Hermon Brhane from Oklahoma by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Ana Lorena Belmar Hernandez and Kristen Mee fell in their singles matches.

Arkansas also earned one win in doubles, as the duo of Claudine Paulson and Sarah McLean defeated Texas Tech's Caroline Starck and Elizabeth Ullathorne 8-5.

The CCLR Invitational continues tomorrow at the Country Club of Little Rock. Arkansas will compete in doubles starting at 10 AM CST and doubles in the afternoon.
