Razorbacks grab four wins at Georgia Southern

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas men’s tennis team went 4-3 on day one of the Georgia Southern Tournament. Representing the Razorbacks was junior Pete Thomason, redshirt freshman Christian Lee and true freshman Austin Robles.

All three Hogs went 1-1 in singles play on the day. Lee picked up the first win with a straight-set victory over Georgia Southern’s own Oliver Webb, 6-2, 6-1 before falling to Georgia State’s Victor Valente 6-0, 6-2. The second win for the Razorbacks, came when Thomason downed SCAD’s Alex Roberts, in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. Thomason would fall to Georgia Southern’s Albert Codina Sala 6-3, 7-6 (5) after his straight-set win.

In Robles’ first match he took the first set 6-3, but Georgia Southern’s Rafael Racy put up a strong second set (6-2) to push the match to a third set, where Robles fell 6-4. Robles rebounded nicely after the loss and put together a flawless match against SCAD’s Julian Judge, defeating him 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, Lee and Thomason teamed up to defeat Georgia Southern’s duo of Alex Doherty and Daniel Rush.

“We had a great doubles performance to wrap up the day by Lee and Thomason,” head coach Robert Cox said. “We lost some close singles matches, but I am happy that each player grabbed a victory.”

Men’s tennis action will continue tomorrow in Statesboro, Ga. as the Hogs continue in the Georgia Southern Tournament. A full recap will be available after each day of play.
