FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Senior Austin Cook put on a display at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday when he sank seven birdies and shot a two-under par, 70, at the Isleworth Country Club to lead the No. 15 University of Arkansas men’s golf team to a seventh-place finish in the final tournament of the fall season.

Cook was one-over par after two holes, but following a birdie putt on No. 3, the Jonesboro, Ark., native was never above par again.  He would sink four birdies on the front nine and make the turn at two-under par.  His score would drop to as low as four-under par on No. 11 and he finished the day by shooting under par one on both the longest and shortest holes of the course.  Cook’s tie for ninth is his highest finish of the fall season and is the third time in five tournaments that he has led the Razorbacks.

“This is a difficult course and I thought that the team was able to perform well,” Arkansas Head Coach Brad McMakin said.  “Austin had a great tournament and was as good as anyone on the course today.  Now we turn our attention to the classroom and sharpening our games to be prepared for the spring.”

As a team, the Razorbacks finished seventh, the same spot that they entered Tuesday’s competition.  With scores higher than they were a day earlier, Arkansas shot 12-over par as a team to finish the tournament at 28-over.  No. 1 California won the team title with a three-day score of four-over par.  No. 6 New Mexico finished two shots behind California followed by No. 8 Alabama (+9), No. 2 Texas (+15), Illinois (+18) and No. 5 Florida (+22).

Junior William Meason posted Arkansas’ second best score on Tuesday when he fired a two-over par, 74.  Getting better with each round, Meason slashed one stroke off Monday’s total with three birdies, two bogeys and a triple bogey.  Meason played the back nine at even par with a single birdie and bogey and could have been a career best one-under par for the day had he not posted the triple bogey on the par four, 465-yard eighth.

Continuing his improved play, Nicolas Echavarria tallied a four-over par, 76 on Tuesday.  Three-over par through five holes, Echavarria played the next 12 holes at one-under par with four birdies and three bogeys.  He ended the round with a double bogey on No. 18 to get to his four-over par score.  Echavarria matched Meason at 11-over par for the tournament to finish in a tie for 40th.

Junior Joe Doramus recorded yet another round that counted to Arkansas’ team score making him 8-for-8 in that category this fall.  Getting off to a great start, Doramus was two-under par after three holes and made the turn at one-over after three bogeys.  He would remain at one-over through 11, but struggled on No. 12 and No. 14 and ended his day at eight-over par.  The round would place him tied for 52nd in the 75-man field.

Freshman Taylor Moore completed the competition for the Razorbacks with a third round of 12-over par to tie for 58th.

The Razorbacks will not compete as a team until early February when they travel to Gainesville, Fla., for the Gator Invitational.
