FAYETTEVILLE -- The University of Arkansas women's basketball team opened their season on Sunday with a 69- 40 win at Bud Walton Arena in an exhibition game against Rogers State.

The Razorbacks were led by Quistelle Williams, who finished with 14 points and six rebounds. Arkansas' strong defense sparked the team to the win, forcing 36 turnovers and holding the Hillcats to a 29.8% shooting percentage.

"It was great to get out there and play against another team," head coach Tom Collen said. "They are out there competing and trying to impress. I was pleased with the effort. We played good defense and created turnovers. It was very promising. There are a lot of pieces to work with."

The Razorbacks came out of the gate strong, starting the game on a 15-4 run. Calli Berna and Dominque Wilson each hit three pointers to help extend the Arkansas lead.

Arkansas would take a 30-18 lead into the half, with Williams scoring Arkansas'  last seven points of the half to lead all scorers with nine points. Arkansas shot 33.3% from floor and from 3-point distance, and hauled down 21 rebounds.

In the second half, the Razorbacks again charged out of the gate, opening the half on a 16-4 run over the first six minutes. They continued to extend their lead with strong shooting from the floor, finishing the game 37.1% from the floor.

Arkansas got contributions from throughout the roster, with a total of 10 Razorbacks recording points, including two freshmen. Sophomore Jhasmin Bowen put up 11 points and four rebounds, while Sarah Watkins and Dominique Robinson each added ten points.

"When I first got out there, I was so excited that it was our first game," Williams said. "I just tried to go out there and give it my all. For today and the rest of the year our emphasis is on the defensive. We're trying to be a defensive team as well as an offensive team. I was also proud to see our freshmen step up."

Arkansas extended their all-time record in exhibition games to 29-11, including a nine-game exhibition winning streak dating back to 2005. The Razorback season opener is against Jackson State Nov. 9, with an 11 a.m. tip as the team celebrates Elementary Day.
