LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Junior Sebastian Cappelen of the University of Arkansas men’s golf team matched the best scores of the day at two-under par to come from behind and win the Patriot All-America at The Wigwam in Litchfield Park, Ariz., on Monday.  Cappelen finished the tournament with a 54-hole score of four-under par, 206, one stroke better than Kevin Penner of UNLV.

“This is a great win against a really good field,” Arkansas head coach Brad McMakin said.  “All three guys played very well in a stacked tournament, but the way Sebastian hung in there and sank a birdie on the final hole to win it speaks volumes about his ability to play under pressure.”

Beginning the day three strokes behind the leader, Cody Proveaux, Cappelen sank a birdie on No. 2, but would then hit back-to-back bogeys to stand at one-over par through four.  A second birdie on No. 6 put him back at even par where he would stay through the turn before a birdie on No. 10 had him under par for the second time on Monday.  Another birdie on No. 13 was followed by a bogey on No. 14 and following three par putts, Cappelen closed the round with a birdie on the par four, 18th, to seal the victory.

Heading into the final hole, Cappelen was tied with Penner who had concluded his round two groups earlier giving the Razorback knowledge of what needed to be done to win the event.  Cappelen birdied No. 18 during his first round and sank par in the second giving him the confidence as he entered the final hole on Monday.

Cook entered the day tied for third and finished the tournament in a tie for eighth as he shot two-over par, 72, on Monday for a three-day total of even par, 210.  Beginning his final round with seven pars, Cook sank his only birdie of the round on No. 7.  One-under par at the turn, the Jonesboro, Ark., native played that back nine at three-over to achieve his final score.

Freshman Taylor Moore rounded out the competition for Arkansas players and the first-year player shot one-over par, 71, on Monday to tie for 21st overall.  An up-and-down day, Moore began the round with bogey-birdie-bogey and was two-over par after another bogey on No. 6.  A birdie on No. 8 allowed him to reach the back side of the course at one-over par.  Moore sank the only eagle by an Arkansas play on the par four, 12th, but bogeys on No. 11 and No. 13 did not allow him to make up any ground and he finished the round with five pars.

The trio of Razorbacks are part of an 84-person, invitation only, field that features PING All-Americans from all divisions of NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA and AJGA ranks and is hosted in conjunction with the tournament’s beneficiary, the Folds of Honor Foundation.  Each player in the field was playing in honor of a fallen United States military person, Cappelen was honoring Army First Sergeant Blue C. Rowe; Cook played for Army Sergeant First Class Collin J. Bowen and Moore for Marine Corporal Timothy D. Roos.

The Razorbacks return the course as a team in February at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
