FAYETTEVILLE - The No. 56 Arkansas men's tennis team collected two victories over Army in a doubleheader match at Dills Indoor Tennis Facility, Friday afternoon. The Razorbacks took the first match 6-1 and the second 5-1 to improve their record to 6-1 this season.
"We had a good day today," head coach Robert Cox said. "We were tested in doubles play, but our guys showed composure and came out on top."
In the first match, senior Gregoire Lehmann dominated court one defeating Asika Isoh in straight sets. Jovan Parlic, Hall Fess and Victor Hoang all won in straight sets to give Arkansas three points.
Mike Ward had the most exciting match of the day against Peter Sienko. Ward and Sienko went into three tiebreakers including the last set where Ward took the match winning 11-9.
Arkansas won two out of the three doubles matches taking the doubles point. Junior Hall Fess and Ward played solid on court one taking down Rashad Shelton and Austin McCassin 8-4. Both court two and three went into a tie breaker with Army. Pete Thomason and Christian Lee won their tie breaker to clinch the doubles point.
In the second match of the day, junior Manfred Jeske eased through his singles match taking down Harrison McCormmick on court two 6-1, 6-3.
Lee got his third singles victory in dual play this season defeating Ben Davies in straight sets. Fess clinched the win for the Razorbacks with his tie breaker win over 6-2, 7-6 on court three.
After dropping the first set, Hoang recovered winning the second and taking the third-set tie break 10-8. Thomason closed out the match collecting a three-set victory over Austin McCassin.
Arkansas will be back in action on Sunday hosting No. 37 Minnesota. Sunday is also Kids Days; every kid that comes to the match will receive a free t-shirt. There will also be free pizza for fans, while available.
