Plasencia Qualifies For U.S. Women's Am

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.– University of Arkansas junior Regina Plasencia qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Monday.

Plasencia, a Guadalajara, Mexico, native played the tight, hilly course to a runner-up finish with a stroke play round of even par 70.  Plasencia was one-under on the front nine with birdies on the third and fifth holes.  She was one-over on the back nine and had two additional birdies on the second side.

The U.S. Women’s Amateur takes place at Nassau Country Club in New York.  The course will play 6,297 yards with a par of 70.  Nineteen different sites hosted qualifiers in a 16-day span.

Plasencia qualified shooting a 70 at Rolling Hills Country Club in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. She posted a runner-up finish in a field of 80 competitors.

The Golf Channel is scheduled to air much of the U.S. Women’s Amateur beginning Aug. 6 with first round matches and continuing through the championship match Aug. 10.  Play begins Aug. 4 with the first round stroke play and continues Aug. 5 with second round stroke play after which the field will be cut to 64 players before beginning match play.  Match play takes place Aug. 6-10.

Teammate Gabriela Lopez will also take part in the U.S. Women's Amateur.  Lopez qualified eariler by winning the Mexican Amateur.
