GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 40th-ranked University of Arkansas women’s tennis team didn’t have much to offer against the 2nd-ranked Florida Gators Friday afternoon, as it fell to 2-7 in the Southeastern Conference with a 7-0 loss in Gainesville, Fla.
The Razorbacks now 10-10 on the year didn’t have much of an answer for the Florida team that won all of Friday’s singles matches in straight sets and pushed its record to 16-1 overall and 9-0 in the conference.
Throughout the entire day it seemed that Florida was in control from the start as they swept through each doubles courts winning by at least two games or more. The clincher came at court one for the Gators where the 13th-ranked team of Lauren Embree and Joanna Mather defeated sophomore Laurie Gingras
and junior Claudine Paulson
Arkansas seemed to show some life on the final doubles court as freshman Catherine Parenteau
and senior Kate Lukomskaya
were tied at 6-all in a back and forth battle. Unfortunately, Caroline Hitimana and Olivia Janowicz went on to win two straight for the 8-6 victory, giving Florida the doubles sweep.
Singles play did not go much better for the Razorbacks as Florida scored quick wins at courts two and three for a big 3-0 lead in the team standings. Not much long after, Parenteau dropped her match at court six with Janowicz, 6-4, 6-1, which gave UF the win with the fourth team point. Florida went on to win at the remaining three courts, all in straight sets.
The weekend will continue for the Razorback women’s tennis team at Columbia, S.C., where they will face No. 32 South Carolina starting at 1 p.m. A full match recap with complete results can be found online following the day’s play.
