FAYETTEVILLE – The 10th-ranked University of Arkansas football team held its 2012 media day on Saturday at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Head football coach John L. Smith fielded questions from local, regional, and national media inside the Broyles Center adjacent to the stadium. Razorback football players were on hand for interviews and photo opportunities preceding the upcoming season of Razorback football.
Coach Smith talked about the high expectations of the team for the approaching season.
"Right now we are talking about one thing, and that is trying to win a national championship," Coach Smith said. "We have that goal and each day we go to the field with the mindset of let's get better. Focus on what's at hand."
The day was action packed for many Razorbacks. The event gave reporters and camera crews the opportunity to meet the many new faces on the Arkansas squad and discuss the team with the veterans.
"I think we have grown and gotten stronger," Coach Smith said. "Now we've got to grind out fall camp and get ready for a great year. We've got a great opportunity to make something special happen, and we're excited about it."
Arkansas returned to practice Saturday with the veterans practicing at 3 p.m. and the newcomers practicing at 6:30 p.m. The first full team practice will take place Sunday at 9:30 a.m. All Razorback football practices held outside from August 2-18 will be open to the public. Practices will be closed after August 18. The team is scheduled to practice on the UA intramural fields from Aug. 2-16.
Arkansas opens the 2012 football season inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium against Jacksonville State on Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. The game will be shown on pay-per-view with details to be announced.
