FAYETTEVILLE - The University of Arkansas football team held its annual Red-White Spring Game Saturday in Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, with the White team defeating the Red team 45-14. An estimated turnout of 42,000 Razorback fans was on hand for the event, which sets a new Arkansas spring game record. The game was also seen by an ESPN national television audience. The previous best was set at the onset of the Bobby Petrino era at the 2008 spring game with a crowd of 40,200.

Highlighting the afternoon was junior quarterback Tyler Wilson and senior wide receiver Jarius Wright for the White offense. Wilson accounted for 242 passing yards and three touchdown throws. Two of Wilson's scoring throws went to Wright, who totaled five catches for 157 yards and two touchdowns.

Head coach Bobby Petrino, entering his fourth season leading the Razorbacks, was proud of his team's performance and the turnout by Razorback fans.

"It was a good day," Coach Petrino said. "I was really happy with the crowd. It's great to see all of the Razorback fans come out, the sun come out, and it was nice and warm out there. There is nothing better than to have that many recruits here and see the support we get in a spring game."

Wilson and Wright started off the afternoon scoring for the spring game, with Wright hauling in a 57-yard pass from Wilson at the 13:51 mark in the first quarter to put the White team up 7-0. The passing touchdown was the end to a three-play, 70-yard drive that took 1:09.

UA running back Ronnie Wingo Jr. scored next for the White team at 5:47 in the first quarter, rushing into the end zone from four yards out. Wingo Jr., a junior, rushed for 62 yards on 11 carries and the touchdown in the game. His scoring run capped a 98-yard touchdown drive.

Sophomore wide receiver Javontee Herndon grabbed an eight-yard touchdown pass from Wilson at 1:44 in the first quarter. Herndon finished the game with three catches for 54 yards. The White defense got into the action immediately after the score, with safety Darrell Smith returning an interception 44 yards for a touchdown.

In second quarter action at the 8:00 mark, senior running back Dennis Johnson found the end zone on a one-yard plunge. Johnson totaled 56 yards on 14 rushing attempts and the score. Later in the second quarter, freshman kicker John Henson added three points to the White team's efforts with a successful field goal try from 32 yards out. Henson's kick finished a 12-play, 47-yard drive.

Razorback running back Knile Davis got the Red team on the scoreboard with two third quarter touchdown rushes. Davis scored from five yards and four yards out. He finished the game with 44 rushing yards and the two touchdown rushes. Brandon Mitchell, a sophomore quarterback, passed for 85 yards and rushed for 42 yards. Junior Cobi Hamilton led the Red team in receiving with 72 yards on five catches.

Terrell Williams, a junior linebacker for the Red team, led all Razorbacks with nine tackles, including 0.5 TFL (1 yard lost). Senior safety Tramain Thomas grabbed two interceptions for the White team. Jake Bequette, Jared Green and Robert Thomas recorded sacks in the game. Matt Marshall added an interception to the White team's total in the fourth quarter.

The final score of Arkansas' spring game was how it started, with Wilson connecting with Wright for a 12-yard touchdown pass completion at the 11:11 mark in the fourth quarter.

Arkansas kicks off the 2011 football season Sept. 3 by facing Missouri State in Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
