FAYETTEVILLE - Former Arkansas left-handed pitcher Geoffrey Davenport has inked a professional contract with the Cleveland Indians, as announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Davenport was picked by the Indians in the 43rd round of the 2011 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft with the 1,298th overall selection. Davenport is the fifth former Razorback taken in the 2011 draft to sign a professional contract.

Hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, Davenport pitched in six games, including three starts, in an injury-shortened 2011 season. The left hander finished the year with a 3-1 record and a 4.95 ERA. He averaged better than a strikeout an inning, fanning 22 in 20 innings of work and held opposing hitters to a .243 batting average. His junior season was cut short after tearing a ligament in his left elbow against Kansas on March 15 and undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Davenport pitched in 36 games and made six starts in his collegiate career. He finished his Razorback career with a 5-3 record, one save and a 4.45 ERA.
