FAYETTEVILLE - The University of Arkansas baseball team announced the addition of six players to the 2012-13 roster. The six signees are the first of a large class that Razorback head coach Dave Van Horn expects to sign National Letters of Intent during the early signing period.

The first group of signees includes catcher/infielder Blake Baxendale of Rogers, Ark., right-handed pitcher Ty Buttrey of Matthews, N.C., right-handed pitcher/infielder Isaac Hellbusch of Edmond, Okla., right-handed pitcher Trey Killian of Mountain Home, Ark., infielder/outfielder Garrett Rucker of Arkadelphia, Ark., and right-handed pitcher Teddy Stankiewicz of Keller, Texas.

Baxendale plays his high school baseball at Rogers Heritage High School. An All-Arkansas baseball team selection by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and 7A All-State selection in 2011, Baxendale hit .500 with 19 runs, 13 doubles, six home runs and 31 RBI last season. Baxendale is currently ranked as the 391st-best prospect nationally in the class of 2012 by Perfect Game. He was selected to play for the Chicago White Sox team in the 2011 Area Code Games. Baxendale is the brother of DJ Baxendale, a junior right-handed pitcher on the Razorback baseball team.

"Blake is a very versatile position player," Van Horn said. "He can catch, he can play first base. He has a lot of right-handed power. He has a chance to come in and get in the lineup right away. He's continued to work hard and get in good shape physically. We're looking forward to having another Baxendale in our program."

Buttrey currently attends Providence High School. Buttrey is ranked as the 35th best prospect nationally in the class of 2012 and the top 2012 prospect out of the state of North Carolina. Buttrey earned All-Conference honors as a junior and has helped his team to three straight conference titles. Last season, his high school team was ranked 15th in the country.

"Ty is a big right-handed pitcher that we hope we can get to campus," Van Horn said. "His fastball is in the low 90s. He's another player that has a chance to come in and contribute as a freshman."

Hellbusch attends Deer Creek HS, where he was a teammate of Brian Anderson, currently a freshman on the Razorback baseball team. He finished his junior season with a team-leading 56 RBI to go along with a .362 batting average and nine homers. On the mound, Hellbusch was 9-0 with a 2.11 ERA. Hellbusch was a honorable mention All-State selection by The Oklahoman in 2011. Hellbusch was named All-Suburban Conference and first team All-Edmond in 2011.

"Isaac has tremendous power and can play several positions," Van Horn said. "In high school ball, he's been a pitcher, a catcher and played shortstop and third base. Isaac is a physically strong, good looking athlete. He has a chance to come in and battle right away to get in the lineup."

Killian attends Mountain Home High School where he plays both baseball and basketball. Killian is ranked nationally as the 100th best prospect in the class of 2012 by Perfect Game. Killian was selected to play in the Under Armour All-America Game at Wrigley Field and also participated in the Area Code Games, playing for the Chicago White Sox. Killian made the all-tournament team at the 2011 WWBA World Championship while playing with the Texas Scout Team Yankees.

"We feel that Trey is the top right-handed pitcher in the state of Arkansas," Van Horn said. "He drew some national attention this past year with his performance in high school. He's another player whose fastball sits in the low 90s with movement. He is another player that is being highly scouted by professional teams. He can come in and make a major impact as a freshman."

Rucker attends Arkadelphia High School, where he's also the quarterback on the football team. In 2011, Rucker finished the season with a .398 batting average with 12 home runs and 32 RBI. He was named 5A All-State and to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette All-Arkansas Team following the 2011 season. Rucker also earned All-Conference and All-State honors in football in 2010.

"We've seen Garrett for a couple of years in our camps and he continues to improve and get better," Van Horn said. "He's got a tremendous arm. He's a very good runner. He hits left handed and throws right. He has a chance to battle for an outfield spot as a true freshman with his athletic ability."

Stankiewicz plays his high school baseball at Fort Worth Christian High School. Stankiewicz is ranked as the 93rd best prospect in the country by Perfect Game. A first team All-State selection in 2011, he finished the season with an 8-3 record and a 0.95 ERA in 66 innings. At the plate, Stankiewicz hit .376 with five homers and 34 RBI. Stankiewicz was selected to play in the 2011 Under Armour All-America Game at Wrigley Field. He also played for the Texas Rangers in the 2011 Area Code Games.

"Teddy's fastball usually sits 90-93 with movement and he can really locate," Van Horn said. "He's very polished for his age. We're hoping to get him to campus and he'll have a chance to get in the rotation early and be a contributor right away."
