FAYETTEVILLE – Sophomore Laurie Gingras was recognized as the SEC Player of the Week Wednesday by the league offices in Birmingham, Ala. Gingras is fresh off a 2-0 weekend in singles that saw her help the Razorbacks earn the win against No. 31 Oklahoma for their sixth win of the year.

The Canada native was the only Hog player to win both of her singles matches against OU and No. 25 Yale and was also part of the winning doubles team with junior Claudine Paulson that defeated the 22nd-ranked team of Marie-Pier Huet and Whitney Ritchie of OU.

“This is a well-deserved honor for Laurie,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “She has been integral to our fast start and the best part of it is that her best tennis is ahead of her.”

Gingras not only had a good weekend against Oklahoma and Yale, but she has also won three straight singles matches and is now 11-6 on the year. Her 6-2 dual match record is tied for second on the team and she has been a stronghold for the bottom of the Razorback lineup. Splitting time at the No. 5 and 6 positions, Gingras has won four matches at No. 5 and two matches at No. 6.

She is one of only two Razorbacks to have compiled a double-digit win total in singles so far this year and is only one behind Paulson for the team lead. Their doubles win over Huet and Ritchie is the first over a ranked opponent this season for any Razorback player or Razorback doubles team.

Gingras’ first match with the honor will not occur until Tuesday when the Hogs travel to Tulsa, Okla., to take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. The match is slated to start at 3 p.m.
