FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas sophomore infielder Dominic Ficociello was recognized for his performance against Northwestern State and Valparaiso last week by being named the SEBaseball.com Player of the Week on Monday.

Ficociello is the second straight Razorback to be recognized by SEBaseball.com. Last week, junior infielder Matt Reynolds was named player of the week by the website.

A native of Fullerton, Calif., Ficociello finished the week with a .476 batting average with five RBI and six runs scored. He had at least one hit in each of Arkansas’ five games during the week and had three multi-hit performances. Ficociello also had at least one RBI in four of the five games. The infielder posted a .542 on-base percentage and a .667 slugging percentage. During Arkansas’ weekend series against Valparaiso, Ficociello hit .538 with two RBI and four runs scored. In the series finale against the Crusaders, Ficociello reached base all six times he came to the plate, tying a career-high with four hits, drawing a walk and getting hit by a pitch.

For the season, Ficociello is hitting .406 with eight RBI and 10 runs scored. He ranks second on the team with four doubles. Defensively, Ficociello has not committed an error in 83 chances.

Razorbacks steady in national polls

After posting a 4-1 record last week, the Arkansas Razorbacks held firm in the top 10 in all of the national college baseball rankings. The Razorbacks swept a midweek series from Northwestern State and took two of three games from Valparaiso last week.

Arkansas’ highest ranking this week comes from Baseball America, which places the Razorbacks at No. 4. Arkansas is seventh in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll, the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll and the Collegiate Baseball poll.

The SEC has six teams ranked in the top 25 this week. Along with Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, LSU and Ole Miss are all ranked in the top 25.

Arkansas is back in action on Tuesday as it hosts BYU in a two-game midweek series. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Single-game tickets for both games are $10 for reserved seats and can be purchased by calling 1-800-982-HOGS (4647), by visiting the online ticket center at ArkansasRazorbacks.com or on gameday at Baum Stadium.
