Razorbacks have tough day at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 32nd-ranked Razorback women’s tennis team had a rough going with No. 35 Vanderbilt Friday afternoon as they dropped a 7-0 decision to the Commodores to fall to 7-4 on the year. Vanderbilt swept the early three doubles matches and Arkansas just could not get anything going in singles to drop all six of the singles points.

The day’s doubles matches didn’t go Arkansas’ way as the Commodores won 8-3 at court one and then proceeded to win, 8-6, at court two to earn the first team point.

The Razorbacks almost avoided the sweep as senior Kate Lukomskaya and freshman Catherine Parenteau went blow for blow with Nelly Radeva and Marie Casares and had it tied 7-all when the doubles point was clinched. Since the first point was already decided the winner of the next game at court three would be given the match win. Even with a valiant effort, the Hogs just could not come out on top as they ended up losing the match, 8-7(4).

Things didn’t go much better for the Razorbacks as the match moved into singles. Vanderbilt scored wins at the top three spots to clinch the overall match, but Arkansas seemed to have a little bit of life left as Lukomskaya and sophomore Laurie Gingras took their first sets to tiebreakers. Unfortunately, Vandy ended up winning every singles match in straight sets to claim the shutout over the Hogs.

The Razorbacks will finish their road trip at No. 72 Kentucky on Sunday with first serve slated for 11 a.m. A full recap and complete results will be posted online following the day’s play.
