FAYETTEVILLE - The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team returns to the courts this week for the opening rounds of the NCAA Women’s Tennis Tournament. The team was selected last week as an at-large team to participate in the tournament and will be the number two seed in the Los Angeles Regional hosted by UCLA. The regional will take place on UCLA’s campus May 11-12 in Los Angeles, Calif.
Arkansas, ranked No. 33 in the current Intercollegiate Tennis Association standings, is making its 13th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and fifth consecutive trip to the postseason.
The Razorbacks’ first opponent will be No. 55 Long Beach State on Friday at noon CST. If the team wins, it will play the winner of No. 1 UCLA and Eastern Kentucky on Saturday at 5 p.m. CST. The winner of the four team-regional will advance to the Sweet 16 hosted by the University of Georgia at the Dan McGill Tennis Center.
The Razorbacks will leave Fayetteville for Los Angeles on Wednesday and then have a practice day on Thursday before the first round match with the 49ers on Friday.
