FAYETTEVILLE- University of Arkansas men’s tennis head coach Robert Cox announced the signing of Austin Robles to a national letter of intent today to join the Arkansas men’s tennis team for the 2012-13 season.

Robles, a native of Naples, Fla., brings extensive experience to the Razorback program, with both ITF juniors experience while also contributing to his state champion high school program.

Throughout his junior years, Robles played in Spain from U 11’s until he moved to Florida when he was a freshman in high school. In the four years as a junior in Spain he was ranked in the top 20 in his age division.

After moving to Florida, he joined his high school team his sophomore season where he was ranked ninth in the state and led his team to the state championship. That same year he was ranked in the top 50 in US junior 16’s.

“Austin is the type of student-athlete we look for when we recruit,” said Cox. “Austin has a proven junior record and has been successful on and off the court. We were really impressed with him as a team player and the way he represented his high school tennis program in this age of competitive club programs.

“He was very instrumental in his high school winning the Florida State Championship his sophomore and junior years,” Cox added.

Robles comes to Arkansas with success in the classroom as well, with an excellent grade point average and selection to the National Honor Society while also receiving the Academic Excellence Award from his high school in 2010.

“Austin has also been very successful in the junior rankings, as he is a former top 50 US junior in the boy’s 16’s,” said Cox. “He has a big game which will help him make the transition from junior tennis to collegiate easier. We are very happy and excited to have Austin join our program.”
