FAYETTEVILLE – Day two of fall camp for the 10th-ranked University of Arkansas football team kicked off on Friday with a pair of practices. The newcomers practiced in the afternoon and veterans practiced in the evening.
Special teams coordinator and defensive ends coach Steve Caldwell
praised the team as he addressed the media.
“We are off to a really good start, especially with the varsity guys,” Caldwell
said. “After our drill work, it might have been the best day of drills, in the
three years that I’ve been here, that I have been a part of. A lot of that is
that these guys have been in the system, that I have worked them in, in the
last three seasons.”
Caldwell also spoke on the freshman class and the first session of practice Friday.
“There is no doubt that we have some good athletes in the freshman class and I
am looking forward to coaching those guys,” Caldwell sad. “It will be a lot of
fun to bring those guys out with the varsity in a couple of days and then
they’ll get a feel for the way it needs to be done.”
Arkansas will return to practice Saturday with workouts for the veterans starting
at 3 p.m. and the newcomers beginning at 6:30 p.m. All Razorback football practices held outside
from August 2-18 will be open to the public. Practices will be closed after
August 18. The team is scheduled to practice on the UA intramural fields from
Aug. 2-16.
Arkansas opens the 2012 football season inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback
Stadium against Jacksonville State on Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. The game will be shown
on pay-per-view with details to be announced.
