FAYETTEVILLE – Veronica Campbell-Brown closed out her individual Olympic events Wednesday with a fourth-place finish at 200 meters in London, crossing the finish line in a time of 22.38. Campbell-Brown was the two-time defending Olympic champion at 200 meters and was appearing in her third final in the event.
During the rounds of the competition, she had a first-round time of 22.75 and followed with a season-best effort of 22.32 in the semifinal. Campbell-Brown was the bronze medalist at 100 meters in London, running a season-best time of 10.81 in the final. With the third-place finish in the 100 meters, she increased her career haul to six Olympic medals.
Campbell-Brown is set to return to the track as a member of Jamaica’s 4x100-meter relay team. Event qualifying begins Thursday with the final scheduled for the next day. In 2004, she was part of Jamaica’s gold-medal performance in the 4x100-meter relay.
