FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas' soccer team tunes up for next week's regular-season opener with Saturday's 7 p.m. exhibition game at Oklahoma State.
The game offers a good test for the Razorbacks and first-year head coach Colby Hale.
OSU went 22-2-2 last year and reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.
Hale, as associate head coach, was helping Central Florida advance to the Elite Eight at the same time, but he's looking forward to seeing how his first Razorback squad performs on Saturday against the fifth-ranked team in the nation.
"Training has been good," he says. "The preseason match against OSU is the right match at the right time. They are a preseason top five team nationally and deserve all the hype they receive."
One of OSU's wins was a 4-0 victory in Fayetteville on Aug. 28 for the then-No. 6 Cowgirls.
Hale has been pleased with UA's efforts in practice. He went through a spring exhibition season with the Razorbacks and Arkansas recorded an improved 1.57 goals against average in seven games.
"We will have some success in some areas and I'm sure we'll be exposed in some areas," Hale says. "Both will be important for us moving forward. It's a preseason match and doesn't count in the records or standings, but I can tell you the girls will come ready to play."
OSU leads the all-time series 5-0, including a 2-0 lead in Stillwater.
Following Saturday's exhibition game, Arkansas opens the regular season on Aug. 17 against Austin Peay at Razorback Field at 7 p.m. The Razorbacks follow with two more home games - Aug. 19 at 1 p.m. against Texas and Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. against Missouri State.
