CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. – Freshman Taylor Moore and Junior Sebastian Cappelen of the University of Arkansas men’s golf team were unable to climb over the cut line at the U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills Country Club on Tuesday, ending their attempt at the individual title.

The US Amateur takes the top 64 players after two days of stroke play and moves the group to match play where they contest for the individual championship.  The cut line for the 2012 championship was at 143.

Moore shot a two-over par, 73, on day two for a two-day score of 145, missing the cut by two.  The Edmond, Okla., native looked to be in good shape throughout his round until a big score on No. 13 derailed his pursuit of a match play berth.  Opening with a bogey, Moore erased that blemish with three straight birdies on No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to stand at two-under par.  Unfortunately back-to-back bogeys on No. 8 and No. 9 put him at even par at the turn.  Moore posted a birdie on No. 11 to get under par once again, but No. 13 saw him card a triple bogey moving his score to two-over.  Moore closed out the round with three pars, a birdie and a bogey.  Overall, Moore played the par five holes of the course at five-under par.

Cappelen’s second round found him at eight-over par as he found trouble on two separate holes.  A bogey on the first was followed by another on No. 4.  He then triple-bogeyed the par three, sixth to bring his scorecard to five-over par after six holes.  Cappelen responded from the triple with a birdie on No. 7 and made the turn at four-over.  The back nine did not begin well for the Dane as he posted bogeys on No. 10, No. 12 and No. 13 with a double bogey on No. 11.  Cappelen did settle back down to sink four straight pars before ending with a birdie.  Like his future teammate, Cappelen was able to take advantage of the longest holes on the course, shooting five-under par on those challenges.

The Razorbacks return to campus this weekend with competition starting for the men’s golf team in early September at the Gopher Invitational.
