FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - Razorback freshman Kimberley - Ann Surin will compete in the US Open Juniors Qualifying this weekend, held at the site of the Professional US Open in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

"It's a real thrill for us all that Kim will compete at the US Open," Coach Hegarty said. "She's certainly earned her way into the draw and I'm sure she will savor the experience."

She will play Tornado Ali Black on Friday at approximately 2 p.m. CT. With a win she advances to play on Saturday against the winner of Ivana Jorovic and Basak Eraydin. Surin needs two wins to qualify for the main draw.

This is the first time that a current Arkansas women's tennis player will play in the US Open Juniors under Coach Hegarty. Surin will be making her second straight appearance at the US Open Juniors. Last year she lost in the first round to Jules Elbaba, currently a freshman at the University of Virginia.

"It's a big accomplishment to be a college player in this tournament," Coach Hegarty said. "She is one of only three college players in the draw. It should be a very exciting first round match against American tennis phenom Tornado Ali Black."

The event is one of four Junior Grand Slams, and is held in conjunction with the professional US Open, which is currently underway. Former US Open Junior champions include Maria Sharapova, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray.

Surin qualified for the tournament by virtue of her ITF World Rank of 168. Fans can follow live scoring for the match at www.usopen.org.
