FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Junior Sebastian Cappelen of the University of Arkansas men’s golf team is tied for seventh in the 23-man field of the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic after 36 holes by shooting a five-under par score of 137.

Following a solid round of one-over par, Cappelen played masterful golf in his second round of the day, shooting six-under par to arrive at his final score.  All told, Cappelen sank 11 birdies, nine in his second 18 and is six strokes off the lead of Kevin Penner of UNLV and Cory Whitsett of Alabama at the El Paso Country Club course.

Cappelen’s day began with seven straight par putts before he made his first birdie on the par four, eighth.  Another birdie on No. 13 moved him to two-under par, but a triple bogey on No. 15 moved him one-over par where he stayed for the duration of the round.

Opening his second round on No. 10, Cappelen went birdie-birdie-bogey-birdie over his first four holes and was two-under par through seven.  Back-to-back birdies closed the back side of the course and he made the turn at four-under par.  A third straight birdie on No. 1 got him to five-under par, but a pair of bogeys moved his score closer to par.  Three birdies and three pars over his final six holes got his score to a tournament best six-under.

The Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday morning.  Cappelen is scheduled to tee off at 8:10 a.m. from the first hole as he seeks to win the star studded event.
