FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas men’s golf team added two signees during the early signing period when Alec Tahy and James Leadbetter signed national letters of intent.

“I’m excited to have Alec and James join our program next fall,” Razorback head coach Brad McMakin said.  “We will have a solid group of players returning which will allow both guys to really develop their games.  Both Alex and James have are solid all-around players and have tremendous long-term potential.”

Tahy, who hails from Dayton, Ohio, has a top 10 finish in the Junior PGA series, a fifth-place finish at the Golfweek East Coast Junior Invitational and is a three-time participant at the Ohio Amateur.  He has the distinction of being the youngest player in the 104-year history of the Ohio Amateur to qualify and play all four rounds, when he accomplished the task in 2008 at just 13-years-old.  Jack Nicklaus had been the youngest at 14 before Tahy broke the record in 2008.

Leadbetter has improved his game significantly over the last year and since December 2011 has finished as the runner-up of the AJGA Florida Junior, placed 10th at the AJGA Aspen Junior Classic and 11th at Doral/Publix Junior Classic.  He has four top 10 finishes on the IMG Junior Golf Tour and was eighth at the HP Byron Nelson Junior Championship and 34th at the Callaway Junior World Championship.  A native of Bradenton, Fla., Leadbetter’s sister Hally is a member of the Razorback women’s golf team.

Both Tahy and Leadbetter will join the Razorbacks in the fall of 2013.

The Razorbacks return to competition in early February at the Gator Invitational.
