FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sophomore BJ Young of the University of Arkansas basketball team was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday following his double-double against Northwestern State on Saturday.

Young scored 26 points and grabbed a career high 13 rebounds in Arkansas’ 79-61 victory over Northwestern State while also adding seven assists and a career high four steals.  The double-double was the second of Young’s career and his 36th double-digit scoring effort.  It was also his fifth 20-plus point game of the 2012-13 season and 11th in 43 career outings.

With his 26-point game against the Demons, Young now leads Arkansas in scoring and is No. 2 in the SEC with 17.5 points per game.  He also ranks No. 3 in the SEC in assists per game at 4.4.

The honor for Young makes him the 12th Arkansas player in school history to be named the SEC Player of the Week and the first since the 2010-11 season.  He is also just the second Razorback to have earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors (Jan. 9, 2012) and Player of the Week honors during his career joining Courtney Fortson as the only players to accomplish the task.

Young was also named the College Sports Madness SEC Player of the Week on Monday.

Arkansas returns to the court on Saturday, Jan. 5, when it plays Delaware State in the final non-conference game of the season at Bud Walton Arena.
