COLLEGE STATION, Texas –  Sophomore Susanna White set a new school record clocking a 53.53 in the 100 butterfly in the morning preliminaries of the 2013 Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championship. Led by White’s top-notch swim, Arkansas placed four swimmers in the event finals, which begin at approximately 6 p.m.

White’s 53.53 in the 100 fly broke former swimmer Katie Whitbeck’s time of 53.95 set in 2011 earned her a spot in the ‘C’ finals putting her in scoring position for the Razorbacks. The record marks the ninth school record to fall under new head coach Sean Schimmel this season.

The 100 fly prelims brought more success for the Razorbacks as each swimmer competing in the event earned a personal-best time. Liz Braun finished 33rd (54.86), Shana Lim placed 33rd (54.86), Aubrey Golbek nabbed 38th (55.96), and Rebekah Harvey picked up 45th overall (56.84).

The 200 free preliminaries were filled with more top swims as sophomore Lauren Jordan took the top finish for the Razorbacks and while doing so recorded a personal-best time of 1:47.01. She was in a close battle with teammate Anna Mayfield throughout the race, as Mayfield led with 50 yards to go, but it was Jordan who touched first for the top time.  The finish earned her a slot in the ‘B’ finals and Mayfield will represent Arkansas in the ‘C’ finals. Freshman Nina Drolc swam a personal-best time of 1:48.37 and secured a spot as an alternate for the finals.

Junior Julia Kucherich posted the 17th-fastest preliminary time in the 400 individual medley to put her in the ‘C’ finals tonight. Freshman Tera Bradham also placed herself in the ‘C’ finals with a time of 4:20.31.

The Razorbacks will return to the pool tonight at 6 p.m. for the evening finals.
