COLLEGE STATION, Texas –  Led by a school-record tying swim by Susanna White in the 100 free (49.51) the University of Arkansas  swimming and diving team finished the morning preliminaries with a bang as four Razorbacks are in scoring position on the final day of the 2013 Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships.

The school-record tying swim is the 10th school record under new head coach Sean Schimmel. Freshman Nina Drolc posted the second-fastest time in school history with a time of 49.55. Drolc and White will get the chance to duel for the record in the finals, as they both earned a spot in the ‘C’ final to score for Arkansas.

White may have nabbed a school record, but it was the breaststroke team of Nikki Daniels and Julia Banach that really stepped up for the Razorbacks. The duo have gone one-two all season and this was really no different. Daniels and Banach had several lead changes, but in the end it was Daniels that touched first with a time of 2:12.11 and Banach nabbed a time of 2:12.75 to place 11th and 14th respectively overall and earning spots in the ‘B’ finals.

The 200 backstroke preliminaries were nothing short of exciting as freshman Anna Mayfield nearly broke her own school record in the final preliminary heat. She clocked a final time of 1:55.56, which is just .38 off the record. Mayfield’s strong preliminary swim gives her another shot at the record tonight when she returns to the pool in the ‘B’ finals after clocking the 10th-fastest preliminary time.

Aransas sits just 26 points behind the LSU Tigers in the team race and enters the finals with four chances to score on top of eight UA swimmers competing in the mile beginning at 2 p.m. today.

Arkansas returns to the pool for the evening finals at 6 p.m. The finals will also be televised on ESPN3.com.
