Team Notes:
The second-ranked Arkansas baseball team dropped all four games it played in the Coca-Cola Classic in Surprise, Ariz. The Razorbacks dropped a pair of games to No. 25 Arizona State and lost once to Gonzaga and Pacific. For the weekend, Arkansas hit .233 and is now hitting .285 on the season. Sophomore infielder Brett McAfee batted .455 (5-for-11) in the four games with an RBI and two stolen bases. Redshirt freshman outfielder Tyler Spoon hit .438 (7-for-16) with a pair of RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases. Junior infielder Dominic Ficociello went 3-for-10 on the weekend. The Razorback pitching staff had a 2.41 ERA on the week and now has a team ERA of 1.82 on the season. Freshman right hander Trey Killian struck out nine and allowed two runs on four hits in 6.1 innings in his start on Saturday vs. Arizona State. Killian retired 16 straight at one point in his start vs. the Sun Devils. Junior righty Ryne Stanek started the tournament opener on Thursday vs. ASU and gave up two runs, just one earned, on five hits and struck out three in 5.2 innings. Senior southpaw Randall Fant made his season debut in Sunday’s finale vs. Pacific and allowed a run on four hits with five strikeouts in four innings. Redshirt senior left hander Trent Daniel had two scoreless outings out of the bullpen, throwing 1.1 shutout innings. Junior right hander Colby Suggs struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, while junior righty Thomas Altimont and sophomore left hander Michael Gunn each had a scoreless inning. Junior right hander Brandon Moore pitched in two games and had a 2.08 ERA, allowing three runs, just one earned, in 4.1 innings. Arkansas returns home this week to face San Diego State in a four-game series. Game times vs. the Aztecs are set for 6:05 p.m. on Thursday, 3:05 p.m. on Friday, 11:35 a.m. on Saturday and 12:05 p.m. on Sunday.
