FAYETTEVILLE Devon Wallace, a sophomore from Double Oak, Texas was named the SEC player of the week for her performance at the Woo Pig Classic.

Wallace contributed to the team’s four wins at the Woo Pig Classic in a major way. She went 7-for-11 (.636) in five games over the weekend leading Arkansas to the Woo Pig Classic title. She had three homeruns, three doubles and seven RBI despite being walked eight times. The Southeastern Conference’s leader in on base percentage (.659) also had six runs scored and hit the go-ahead homerun in the top of the seventh inning on Sunday to give the Razorbacks a 3-2 win over Jacksonville State. With eight walks this weekend, Wallace improved her walk total to an SEC-leading 27. On defense, Wallace played leftfield and first base and did not commit an error all weekend.

“She had an unbelievable weekend,” head coach Mike Larabee said. “This is really great for our program and is great for her. She is a great representation of what we want in a softball player, on and off the field.”

The 2012 SEC freshman of the year is ranked fourth in the SEC this season with a .491 batting average. Her 28 runs scored and seven doubles are tied for fourth in the SEC and lead the team. Her .982 slugging percentage ranks second in the conference as she has notched seven homeruns in 2013.

This is the first time that a Razorback has won SEC player of the week since Miranda Dixon earned the award in February of 2008.

Next up for Wallace and the Hogs will be a home series with Utah Valley University. Game one of the series will be Friday, March 8 at 6 p.m.
