Arkansas hosts Alabama A&M in midweek series

FAYETTEVILLE – After sweeping a four-game series against San Diego State last weekend, the No. 15 Arkansas baseball team continues its nine-game homestand this week as it hosts Alabama A&M in a two-game midweek series. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday and 3:05 p.m. on Wednesday.
   
Both games of the midweek series will be available on RazorVision through ArkansasRazorbacks.com and on the Razorback Baseball Radio Network from IMG. Phil Elson, the voice of the Arkansas Travelers, will have the call for both games of the series. A live blog and live stats for each game will be available on ArkansasRazorbacks.com. Fans can also follow updates of each game on @RazorbackBSB, the official Twitter account of the Razorback baseball team.

Single-game tickets for the Alabama A&M series are still available. Tickets are $10 for reserved seats and may be purchased by calling 1-800-982-HOGS (4647), by visiting the online ticket center at ArkansasRazorbacks.com or on gameday at Baum Stadium, while supplies last.

Arkansas brings an 11-5 record into the midweek series vs. the Bulldogs. The Razorbacks swept a four-game series vs. San Diego State last weekend at Baum Stadium. Arkansas hit .258 as a team against the Aztecs, while the pitching staff had a 1.50 team ERA.
   
Tyler Spoon hit .467 (7-for-15) with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored in the series. Jacob Mahan went 6-for-13 against the Aztecs with a RBI and four runs scored. Eric Fisher hit .300 with a RBI and two runs scored. On the mound, starting pitchers Randall Fant, Trey Killian and Colin Poché did not allow a run in their starts. Barrett Astin pitched in two games out of the bullpen in the series and had one save. Jalen Beeks, Trent Daniel, Michael Gunn, Brandon Moore and Tyler Wright each had one scoreless appearance in relief.
   
For the season, the Razorbacks are batting .279 as a team. Spoon, who has hit safely in all 16 games this season, leads the team with a .410 batting average with three home runs and 18 RBI. Brian Anderson is batting .321 with 10 RBI, while Mahan has a .317 batting average with a home run and seven RBI. Matt Vinson is batting .300 on the year with three RBI.
   
On the mound, the Arkansas pitching staff has a team ERA of 1.74. Poché will start the series opener on Tuesday vs. Alabama A&M. Poché, who has made three appearances, including two starts, has a 2-0 record on the season and has not allowed a run in 11.1 innings of work. The Razorbacks have not announced a starter for Wednesday’s game.
   
In relief, Beeks has pitched in a team-leading seven games and has a 2-0 record with one save and a 1.50 ERA. Astin has appeared in five games and is 1-1 on the season with one save and a 1.77 ERA. Moore has also seen time in five games and has compiled a 1-1 record with a 1.62 ERA. Michael Gunn and Tyler Wright have each made three scoreless appearances out of the bullpen.

Alabama A&M enters this week’s series with a 2-15 overall record and an 0-6 mark in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. The Bulldogs have dropped seven straight games and were swept in a three-game series at Alabama State last weekend.

As a team, the Bulldogs are hitting .243 on the season. Alabama A&M is led at the plate by T.J. Lindsey, who is hitting .375 with four RBI. Austin Hulsey is hitting .345 with eight RBI, while Patrick Dodson is batting .338 with nine RBI. Bradley Black has hit two homers and has nine RBI with a .317 batting average.

The Alabama A&M pitching staff has a team ERA of 8.42. The Bulldogs have not announced their starting rotation for the midweek series. Sanchez Tucker has appeared in a team-leading 10 games, all in relief, and has a 1-1 record with a 9.51 ERA. Walton Ashwander has pitched in nine games, eight out of the bullpen, and has an 0-2 record with a save and a 6.97 ERA.

This week’s two-game series marks the first-ever meetings between Arkansas and Alabama A&M. The Razorbacks are 3-0 against current members of the SWAC.
