FAYETTEVILLE – The coaching staff of the No. 2 University of Arkansas men’s track and field team continues its monthly luncheon series Wednesday. Held at Jose’s Mexican Restaurant on Dickson Street at 11:30 a.m., the lunch is open to all fans, local track officials and media. This will be the third of four scheduled meetings this season.

In addition to this week’s lunch, the remaining scheduled lunch for the season will take place May 1, the first Wednesday of the month. The cost of the lunch buffet is $8.95 which is payable by cash or check at the door. Head coach Chris Bucknam will be joined Wednesday by assistant coaches Doug Case and Travis Geopfert. Jose’s is located at 324 W. Dickson Street in Fayetteville.

Following last month’s meeting, the Razorback men won the 2013 NCAA indoor team title in front of their home fans at the Randal Tyson Track Center. The win gave Arkansas its 20th national indoor title in program history and 41st overall national crown. The team won three NCAA event titles over the two-day meet on its way to 74 points. The team win was the program’s first since 2006 and first for Bucknam.

Andrew Irwin won his second national title in the pole vault, Kevin Lazas took first place in the heptathlon and the 4x400-meter relay team of Neil Braddy, Caleb Cross, Akheem Gauntlett and Marek Niit broke the collegiate record with a winning time of 3:03.50. The relay win also represented the Razorbacks’ second straight in the event.

Arkansas is now two weeks into its outdoor season which began March 23 with the Texas State Elite meet in San Marcos, Texas. Entering the week, the Razorbacks have five NCAA top-10 marks. Kemoy Campbell is ranked No. 1 at 5,000 meters, Irwin is third in the pole vault, Niit is fourth at 200 meters, Solomon Haile is fifth at 10,000 meters and Cross is sixth in the 400-meter hurdles.

In celebration of the team’s national title, the University of Arkansas will host a pep rally Friday, April 5. The event will be held at the Union Mall from 12:30-1 p.m. and is open to the public. Bucknam and members of the indoor championship team will be in attendance along with the Razorback pep band and spirit squad. Paid meter parking for the pep rally will be available in the Stadium Drive Parking Garage.
