FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The No. 54 University of Arkansas men’s tennis team will close out its 2013 regular season this weekend with a doubleheader in Baton Rouge, La., Saturday. Arkansas will play the No. 20 LSU Tigers at noon on Saturday, followed by a match with Jackson State at 6 p.m.
The Razorbacks are on a three-match winning streak with victories over St. Louis on Sunday and two wins over Nebraska-Omaha in a mid-week match up.
“We have been playing some solid tennis these past few matches,” head coach Robert Cox said. “LSU is a solid team and has been coming on strong these past few weeks, so we need to go in there and play some of our best tennis to come out with a victory.”
Arkansas’s doubles play stood strong this past weekend when the Razorbacks stole the doubles point from No.4 Georgia. Seniors Mike Ward and Gregoire Lehmann clinched the point for the Hogs on court two. The number one doubles pair for the Razorbacks of Manfred Jeske and Mike Nott continue to move up in ITA rankings and now sit at No. 28.
LSU is coming into the final weekend of play with an overall record of 13-10 and an SEC record of 4-7. The Tigers recently dropped their mid-week match 4-1 to Mississippi State in Baton Rouge, but collected a thrilling win last weekend over No. 6 Tennessee.
Jackson State has an overall record of 6-12 while being 3-2 in SWAC play. This will be the first time that Arkansas has played Jackson State in Cox’s 26 years being head coach of the Razorbacks.
