EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 2 University of Arkansas men’s track and field team got a third-place finish from Solomon Haile to open team scoring Friday in a dual meet with No. 4 Oregon. The Razorback junior turned in a time of 14:13.08 at 5,000 meters to secure the team’s first scoring in the dual format. After the first two events of the dual meet, the Ducks hold an early 17-1 lead.

The first event of the dual competition was the hammer throw. Arkansas picked up a fourth-place finish from Devin Randall but did not get any points. Competing in the event for the first time, the Razorback redshirt freshman had a day’s best of 44.75m/146-10 which puts Randall fourth on the all-time program list. He is scheduled to compete Saturday in the shot put and discus, his primary events.

In Oregon Relays competition not counted toward the dual, senior Layne Nixon ran to a personal-best time of 29:53.06 and a runner-up finish at 10,000 meters. The time is the first sub-30:00 effort of his career and is 37 seconds faster than his previous lifetime best.

The Arkansas-Oregon dual competition continues Saturday at 2 p.m. (CT), and will conclude approximately three hours later with the 4x400-meter relay. The dual meet will be scored using the traditional 5-3-1 point system (5-0 relays), meaning that a total of 163 points are up for grabs; that, in turn, means that the team that reaches 82 points wins. This will be the first meeting between the two teams in a dual-meet format.
