FAYETTEVILLE – The No. 5 University of Arkansas women’s track and field team capped Saturday’s Arkansas Invitational with back-to-back victories. Jessica Kamilos continued her mid-season emergence with a first-place effort at 1,500 meters while the Razorbacks’ 4x400-meter relay combined for a victory in the final event of the competition.

Off her personal-best performance last weekend in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Kamilos ran to a first-place finish and a lifetime best of 4:24.55 at 1,500 meters. Taking the lead from the start, the redshirt freshman pulled away for the two-second win over the field. In Kamilos’ previous two races, she established bests in the steeplechase with a PR of 10:15.69 last weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays.

In the final event of the day, the Razorbacks’ 4x400-meter relay team of Makeba Alcide, Chrishuna Williams, Ivanique Kemp and Gwendolyn Flowers combined for a head-to-head win over UCF. Facing a deficit on the final leg, Flowers made up the stagger to anchor Arkansas to a final time of 3:43.75. The Razorbacks were without Regina George and Sparkle McKnight who competed at Penn Relays.

Pulling double duty for Nigeria, George was part of the team’s 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays at Penn Relays in Philadelphia. The Razorback senior turned in the fastest split of the day with her run of 49.5 on the third leg of Nigeria’s 4x400-meter relay. George began the day as the second leg on the team’s 4x100-meter relay which finished with a time of 43.52 and a fourth-place finish.

McKnight was also in Philadelphia as a representative of her native Trinidad & Tobago. She ran the opening leg of the team’s 4x100-meter relay. Trinidad & Tobago finished in eighth place overall with a time of 44.19. George and McKnight are members of both Razorback relay teams.

Arkansas totaled six runner-up results and four personal-best performances Saturday at its home meet. The Razorbacks’ second-place finishes came from Alcide in the shot put, Kemp in the 100-meter hurdles, Valerie Reina at 3,000 meters, Danielle Nowell in the pole vault, Tamara Myers in the triple jump and Rebecca Gorden in the javelin. Alcide also had the best wind-legal mark of her career (5.89m/19-4) in the long jump.

The Razorbacks’ distance crew will carry the team’s banner Sunday afternoon during the Payton Jordan Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
