– Liz Fortado
, a soon-to-be sophomore for the University of Arkansas volleyball team, has been selected to participate in this summer’s USA Volleyball Women’s Junior A1 National Team. The team will attend a 10-day training camp and compete in Europe from July 9-20. Team USA will cap its experience with the 9th Annual European Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia.
Prior to tournament play, the team will spend time in Maribor, Slovenia, and play exhibition matches against the Slovenian Youth and Junior National Teams. The Global Challenge Team will consist of 12 athletes and will be competing against other top junior national teams from Europe. The program is the premier international travel program for Junior-age athletes in the United States.
In February, Fortado was one of three Razorbacks to attend USA Volleyball open tryouts at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The three-day competition served as a tryout for the U.S. Women’s National Team, U.S. Women’s National A2 Program and U.S. Women’s Junior National Team. Fortado was joined by Arkansas teammates Emily Helm
and Summer Morgan
at the national tryout.
During her first collegiate season, Fortado was an SEC All-Freshman Team performer. Playing on the right side of the Razorbacks’ offense, she racked up 21 matches with six or more kills including seven double-digit performances. In the regular-season finale, Fortado put down a career-high 13 kills at South Carolina. She also had 11 matches where she had at least six kills along with a .300 or higher hitting percentage.
