Urbana, Ill. - The Arkansas men's tennis doubles pair of Manfred Jeske and Mike Nott will begin play Thursday in the NCAA Doubles Championships at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Urbana, Ill. The duo, ranked 23rd in the country, was selected as an at-large bid for the tournament of 32.
"I am very proud of the year that Manfred and Mike have had so far," head coach Robert Cox said. "These guys fought hard and really earned their way into this tournament. I am very proud of the way these guys have risen up and improved. Now, we need to come out and finish strong at the NCAA tournament."
The junior duo made its way into the NCAA tournament by collecting highly ranked wins throughout the season playing at the number one spot for the Hogs. Jeske and Nott pieced together victories over now-ranked No. 7 Jarryd Botha and David Vierya of Alabama, No. 8 Tom Jomby and Kevin Lei of Kentucky, No. 12 Jordan Angus and Malte Stropp of Mississippi State, and No. 18 Chip Cox and Tsvetan Mihov of South Carolina. All of these doubles teams were selected for the tournament.
The Hogs first round competition will be the No. 16 ranked doubles pair from Virginia of Alex Domijam and Mitchell Frank. The Virginia duo posted a record of 18-2 sitting at the number two position for the Cavaliers. Domijam and Frank were also a part of Virginia's team national championship in which they defeated UCLA on Tuesday evening.
"We are really excited to get the tournament going," Coach Cox said. "This will be Manny and Mike's debut in the NCAA tournament, but they are more than ready. We know that this Virginia team is very tough and we need to come out playing our best tennis on Thursday."
