FAYETTEVILLE – The 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships continued Friday in Des Moines, Iowa, which included a sixth-place finish from Andrew Irwin in the pole vault and a national title at 100 meters by former Razorback Tyson Gay. Friday marked the final day of competition at the national meet for current Razorbacks on the 2013 roster.

Irwin was the first Arkansas athlete in action, finishing sixth in the pole vault with a final clearance of 5.55m/18-2.5. The Mount Ida, Ark., native began the competition with first-attempt clearances at the first three bars before exiting the field with unsuccessful attempts at 18-4.5. During his sophomore season at Arkansas, Irwin repeated as the NCAA indoor champion and swept the indoor and outdoor SEC titles for the second time in as many years.

Having qualified in Thursday’s first round of the 400-meter hurdles, Caleb Cross finished in 13th place overall in the semifinal round of the event. He finished sixth in heat two with a time of 51.25. The Newport, Ark., native just completed his senior season in which he won an NCAA indoor title with the Razorbacks’ 4x400-meter relay team and repeated as the SEC champion in the 400-meter hurdles.

In junior competition at the national meet, redshirt freshman Ken LeGassey turned in a bronze result in the high jump. He finished the day with a best clearance of 2.12m/6-11.5 before taking three attempts at 7-0.5. At each of the first three heights, LeGassey made good on his second attempts at the bar.

Gay won his fourth career 100-meter title at the USA Championships, previously winning in 2006-08. He crossed the finish line in a world-leading time of 9.75 which also marks the 10th-fastest time ever run. Earlier in the day, Gay qualified for the final with a wind-aided 9.75 in the semifinal round of the event. With the win, he will advance to the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow. Gay is also scheduled to compete at 200 meters.

The 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will receive 50 hours of webcast coverage and nine hours of national television coverage. The meet will have broadcast windows spread among USATF.TV (web), ESPN2, Universal Sports, NBC Sports and NBC. During the live TV broadcasts, the webcast will switch to field event coverage only.
